A Meaningful Purpose, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2020 to address the needs of food insecurity, soil regeneration, and community inclusiveness in Atlantic County, NJ.  This mission is carried out at the historic Reed's Farm, continuing a legacy of local food production in the region.  The farm operates year-round utilizing organic and regenerative practices, hosts a sanctuary for farm animals, and provides educational and vocational programming to local schools and organizations with a focus on individuals with cognitive disabilities.  We aim to provide a community hub that inspires all who gather here to engage with nature and celebrate its healing capabilities.

 

​JOB DESCRIPTION

We view our kitchen & market as the heart of the farm. Our kitchen’s core values are: healthy, simple, farm first, and delicious. We aim to display these principles through our offerings. We are looking for someone to join our team who can work within set systems but also understands the importance of and thrives in an environment of collaboration and adaptability.  As a cook at our farm you will work directly with the kitchen leadership team and other kitchen staff in preparing and executing baked goods, sourdough breads, homemade ice creams, soups, salads and other prepared foods and grab-and-go items. You will also work on food preservation and management of food inventory in order to better utilize the produce we grow and minimize overall food waste.

Your daily responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

- Basic food preparation ( Chopping, Slicing, Dicing, etc)
- Washing/Cleaning bulk produce from the farm
- Preserving/Canning/Fermenting
- Contributing to creative planning (i.e. menu planning, new products)
- Execute all recipes up to the highest standard
- Help maintain inventory levels and pars
- Adhere to given recipes and directions
- Maintain cleanliness standards

Expectations and desired qualifications for this position:
- Minimum 2 yr prior experience in similar food & beverage/hospitality establishment
- Ability to display basic kitchen knowledge (i.e. knife cuts, terminology, techniques, conduct)
- Punctuality
- Adherence to food safety guidelines
- Good communication skills
- Ability to lift 50lbs

- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time in a production environment

Helpful but not Required:
- Sourdough bread baking skills
- ServeSafe Certification
- Knowledge of farm to table systems
- Knowledge of fermentation science

 

COMPENSATION

this position is : hourly, commensurate with experience
