ANIMAL SYSTEMS MANAGER
Employment Type: Full-Time
The Animal Systems Manager will oversee all aspects of animal operations at Reed’s Farm. They will be the primary person responsible for the care and wellbeing of all animals on the farm, pasture quality and health, and animal farming systems and rotations. The Animal Systems Manager will work closely with the Farm Director to ensure the broader strategic vision for regenerative animal systems at Reed’s is being achieved.

Maintaining detailed pasture and animal care records in a timely manner

Collaborating with Farm Director and Finance Director to build budgets and maintain financial records; plan for and purchase supplies

Collaborating with Agroforestry Manager to ensure the successful operation and maintenance of all silvopasture systems

Hire, train, and manage all animal systems staff

Overseeing the implementation of the new pole barn and leading all aspects of setting up the new rotational grazing system
-
Collaborate with Farm Director to create and carry out an annual animal systems plan including pasture management, hay production, animal care tasks, animal therapy programs, and development of animal-related infrastructure

Live nearby and be able to rotate with other animal care staff to ensure someone is always on call for animal-related emergencies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least five years of farming experience working with livestock and/or animal systems and 1+ years of experience working in a management or assistant management role
-
Experience with a wide range of different animal species and systems, with some experience with ruminants and poultry being a must

Experience with intensive rotational grazing systems and other regenerative animal farming systems
-
Must be excellent working with and around animals and have solid animal husbandry skills and experience with things like administering medications/vaccinations, hoof trimming, etc.

Commitment to organic, regenerative, and innovative agricultural practices

Able to manage the complexity of caring for animals in a highly public nonprofit setting in which animals are rarely if ever harvested for meat

Basic computer skills, including Google suite and Excel

Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the job, including: occasional lifting of heavy objects; working outside in all seasons; strenuous physical labor

Valid driver's license required for operation of farm vehicles

Good written and verbal communication skills

Strong work ethic and positive attitude; able to keep up morale throughout long days of physical, repetitive work in all weather conditions

The Animal Systems Manager will work closely with the Agroforestry Manager to ensure the health and quality of silvopasture systems on the farm and to maximize integration of the animal systems with various tree crops when appropriate. They will oversee a small staff of full and/or part-time workers and ensure all animals are being cared for by staff seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The position requires expertise in pasture-based, organically managed livestock systems, as well as an ability to train new staff and quickly troubleshoot any problems that arise. The position calls for a professional that contributes to long term planning and brings thoughtful ideas and practices to the operation. This is a full-time, year-round position. A certain amount of on-call time is also needed for this role to be able to provide care for animals during emergencies.
AGROFORESTRY MANAGER
Employment Type: Full-Time
We are seeking an Agroforestry Manager starting in the first quarter of 2025. This person will be an integral part of our full time farm staff and is responsible for developing new perennial cropping systems. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for trees and unique perennial food crops, and a desire to work in a large organization collaborating on the development of an educational and production focused non-profit farm.

Lead the development and implementation of the farm’s already designed agroforestry systems, including alleycropping, berry rows, fruit/nut orchards, public forest gardens, and forest farming

Timely sourcing of plant material and other supplies

Direct and lead annual mulch and compost application to all agroforestry systems

Direct and lead annual pruning of fruit trees, nut trees, berries, and other perennial crops

Assist Animal Manager with implementation and management of silvopasture system

Works closely with Programs and Kitchen/Market staff and reports to Farm Director
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of relevant experience with at least two of the following agroforestry systems: alley cropping, silvopasture, forest farming, forest gardening, windbreaks, riparian buffers

Ability to work independently and with diverse groups of people

The Agroforestry Manager is responsible for implementing, managing, and further developing already designed agroforestry projects at large scales from the ground up. Projects include alley cropping, food forestry, silvopasture, berry cropping systems, nut tree systems, forest farming, and ornamental tree planting infrastructure. We are seeking someone who is enthused about temperate and subtropical edible woody perennials as well as useful herbaceous perennials, and has ability to implement and manage multiple agroforestry systems with differing needs simultaneously.
This position will need excellent organization and communication skills while demonstrating a strong aesthetic approach to tree cropping for a public facing farm environment. The agroforestry manager will perform public duties by giving tours, holding tastings, facilitating public harvesting at key times, volunteer parties, and working with kitchen staff and farm trainees in a dynamic non-profit organization. This position will report to the Farm Director and will also be supported by an agroforestry assistant. This is a full-time, year-round position with a mix of field and office work.
MARKET MANAGER

We seek a dynamic and experienced Market Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of our farm market operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail management, a passion for organic and sustainable agriculture, and excellent customer service and team-building skills.

Market Coordination: Manage all operational market aspects, including scheduling, set-up, and breakdown. Work in coordination with our Farm Manager to distribute all fresh offerings.

Vendor Relationships: Work with all vendors to order products and ensure quality through inventory management, invoice management, and proper receiving.

Sales Management: Drive sales growth by developing and implementing effective marketing and sales strategies. Work with ED, CCO, and marketing director to promote our dry goods and fresh offerings.

Customer Relations: Build and maintain customer relationships, providing excellent service and promoting our farm's mission.

Product Presentation: Ensure that all products are attractively displayed and meet quality standards.

Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure the availability of products while minimizing waste.

Community Engagement: Coordinate with local businesses, community organizations, and events to promote our farm and products.

Reporting: Track and report on sales performance, market trends, and customer feedback to inform future strategies.

Team Leadership: Supervise and support market staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
