AGROFORESTRY ASSISTANT

Employment Type: Seasonal Full-Time, In-Person

The Agroforestry Assistant supports the implementation and maintenance of agroforestry systems under the guidance of the Agroforestry Manager. This role involves fieldwork, data collection, nursery work, and supporting farmer engagement efforts. The ideal candidate is proficient in communication and has practical experience with agroecology, is receptive to taking direction, and comfortable collaborating in a team-based setting.

Assist in planting, maintaining, and monitoring agroforestry systems
Support nursery operations, such as seed collection, propagation, and seedling care
Collect and record field data (tree growth, survival rates, soil conditions, etc.)
Help train and support farmers in agroforestry practices

Coordinate logistics for field activities and training events
Maintain tools, equipment, and field records
Communicate regularly with the Agroforestry Manager on progress and challenges

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in field-based agriculture or environmental work
Familiarity with agroforestry practices and principles
Willingness to learn, both hands-on through instruction and independently
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain
Able to perform physical tasks and manual labor in outdoor field environments
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Organized, reliable, and able to work independently or in a team
Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting

Diploma, degree, or experience in agroforestry, agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, or related field
Permaculture design certification
Experience operating walk-behind and/or 25+hp tractors
Experience with row mulcher implements
Experience working with livestock and electric fencing
Experience in vegetable production systems and crop planning
Hands-on experience with plant propagation, grafting, and pruning
Experience with agroforestry systems design
Experience working with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets (or Excel), etc.

KITCHEN OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

Part-Time or Potential for Full-Time

The Kitchen Operations Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the culinary activities at our farm. This role is collaborative, assisting the kitchen manager with daily culinary tasks and spearheading kitchen administrative duties. The Kitchen Operations

Supervisor shall oversee ordering kitchen goods, facility maintenance, equipment maintenance, assisting in using prep guides and daily inventory sheets, organizing invoices for accounting, and quality checks of goods. They will also collaborate with co-workers on menu development
and utilizing the farm's schedule and products in peak season, ensuring the farm's culinary offerings align with our values and meet the highest standards of quality and taste. This role reports directly to the Kitchen Manager.

Ordering and Receiving Kitchen Goods:
- Understand and anticipate kitchen product needs. Plan and ensure the correct amount
of goods are on hand and are appropriately stored.
- Follow any specifications of preferred brands for ingredients that have been sourced.
- Communicate with management when products have been shorted or are unavailable.
- Ensure products being received are correctly accounted for on vendor invoices.
- Collaborate with co-workers to present ideas for hyper-seasonal menus that showcase
the farm's organic produce and assist in ordering supplementary ingredients as needed.

Kitchen and Walk-In Organization:
- Develop and implement plans to maximize kitchen efficiency. Assist and manage the
kitchen team in maintaining an orderly and sanitary facility.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintain high levels of sanitation
and cleanliness in the kitchen and storage areas.
- Promote a collaborative attitude towards upholding standards.

Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory levels and minimize waste through efficient ordering and storage practices.
- Monitor ingredient costs and work within budgetary constraints to maximize profitability.
- Conduct monthly full kitchen inventory. Facilities and Equipment

Oversight:
- Report any facility or equipment deficiencies to the Kitchen Manager and Reed's Operations Director.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained.

Sustainability and Waste Reduction:
- Utilize sustainable practices in the kitchen, such as composting, recycling, and minimizing single-use plastics.
- Utilize whole ingredients and adopt root-to-stem cooking techniques to reduce food waste.
- Explore opportunities for on-farm production, such as preserving, fermenting, and canning surplus produce.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years experience in a kitchen.
- Strong culinary skills and a passion for organic and sustainable cooking.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a
team.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, focusing on attention to detail.
- Understanding of ordering and inventory systems.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing seasonal menus and farm produce availability.

- Knowledge of organic certification standards and food safety regulations.
- Commitment to promoting sustainable food systems and educating others about organic
principles.
