VEGETABLE PRODUCTION MANAGER
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reed's Farm is seeking a Vegetable Production Manager to start in the first quarter of 2025. This person will be an integral part of our full-time farm staff and coordinate all aspects of vegetable production outdoors and indoors. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for efficiently producing the highest quality vegetables in an ecological growing system with standards meeting and exceeding organic certification.

Maintain detailed harvest records in a timely manner
-
Collaborate with Farm Director and Finance Director to build budgets and maintain financial records; plan for and purchase supplies
-
Ensure all tools are cared for, cleaned and put in the proper place after each use

Collaborate with Farm Director for all seasonal planning
-
Train and manage all vegetable crew positions (approximately 3-5 people)

Propagation: seeding/direct sow/transplant management
-
Collaborate with Farm Director to create and carry out an annual crop plan, including greenhouse production, tillage, field prep, fertilization, transplanting, direct seeding, irrigation, weed control, and pest & disease management

Collaborate with the Farm Director to order seeds & fulfill seasonal seeding charts to ensure proper planting and harvesting time

Utilize best practices for soil health improvement: planning cover crops, minimizing tillage, and appropriately amending soils based on soil test results

Field preparations, cultivation, seasonal prep, cover cropping implementation, ensuring transplants occur on time, pest control, weed control, nutrient management, pruning, and plant health management from transplant to harvest

Work with other organizational staff and outside outlets for product marketing and distribution
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least five years of vegetable farming experience, including at least one year in a farm manager or assistant farm manager position

Experience with no and low-till vegetable production systems including silage tarping, broadforking, cover cropping, and other modern market garden tools

Experience with season extension, high tunnel and/or greenhouse production systems, and year round growing

Commitment to organic, regenerative, and innovative agricultural practices

Crop planning experience and basic computer skills, including Google suite and Excel
-
Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of the job, including: occasional lifting of heavy objects; working outside in all seasons; strenuous physical labor

Valid driver's license required for operation of farm vehicles

Good written and verbal communication skills

Strong work ethic and positive attitude; able to keep up morale throughout long days of physical, repetitive work in all weather conditions

Excellent attention to detail; able to maintain high quality standards and follow food safety protocols while working quickly and efficiently

Comfortable working both individually and on a team

The Vegetable Production Manager will oversee all aspects of vegetable farming for a dynamic multi-market production schedule including produce boxes, bulk contract production, farmers’ markets, an on-site prepared foods kitchen, as well as restaurants. This position is primarily field-based while leading all aspects of production, directing a vegetable farm crew, and building new production areas as needed. Non-field based work includes detailed record keeping, crop planning, and working with organization staff on marketing.
A commitment to generating high quality produce in quantity is required. This position will be required to adhere to pre-existing human scale, bio-intensive, and highly diverse production techniques year round in outdoor market gardens, high tunnels, and heated greenhouses. A desire to grow production to the scale of alley cropping for certain crops is also on the horizon. This position will report to the Farm Director and will also be supported by the vegetable farm crew. This is a full-time, year-round position with a primary focus on field work and a secondary focus on office work for planning, purchasing, and record keeping.
AGROFORESTRY MANAGER
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reed's Farm is seeking an Agroforestry Manager starting in the first quarter of 2025. This person will be an integral part of our full time farm staff and will be responsible for developing new perennial cropping systems. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for trees and unique perennial food crops, and a desire to work in a large organization collaborating on the development of an educational and production focused non-profit farm.

Lead the development and implementation of the farm’s already designed agroforestry systems, including alley-cropping, berry rows, fruit/nut orchards, public forest gardens, and forest farming

Timely sourcing of plant material and other supplies
-
Direct and lead annual mulch and compost application to all agroforestry systems
-
Direct and lead annual pruning of fruit trees, nut trees, berries, and other perennial crops
-
Assist Animal Manager with implementation and management of silvopasture system

Work closely with Programs and Kitchen/Market staff and reports to Farm Director
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of relevant experience with at least two of the following agroforestry systems: alley cropping, silvopasture, forest farming, forest gardening, windbreaks, riparian buffers

Highly motivated individual passionate about perennial food systems and tree crops

At least one season of hands-on experience working on regenerative or organic farms

Ability to work independently and with diverse groups of people

The Agroforestry Manager will be responsible for implementing, managing, and further developing already designed agroforestry projects at large scales from the ground up. Projects include alley cropping, food forestry, silvopasture, berry cropping systems, nut tree systems, forest farming, and ornamental tree planting infrastructure. We are seeking someone who is enthused about temperate and subtropical edible woody perennials as well as useful herbaceous perennials, and has ability to implement and manage multiple agroforestry systems with differing needs simultaneously.
The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent organization and communication skills and must demonstrate a strong aesthetic approach to tree cropping for a public facing farm environment. The agroforestry manager will perform public duties by giving tours, holding tastings, facilitating public harvesting at key times, volunteer parties, and working with kitchen staff and farm trainees in a dynamic non-profit organization. This position will report to the Farm Director and will also be supported by an agroforestry assistant. This is a full-time, year-round position with a mix of field and office work.

The Executive Director is the primary mission-keeper of Reed’s Farm who is able to balance the strong values of social impact and operational efficiency. This role preserves and strengthens the farm's excellent image to all internal stakeholders, donors, and industry professionals. The Executive Director will oversee all staff and have high-level management of activities and programming of the whole organization, including agricultural and land stewardship activities, development of the Market/Kitchen as a funding source, and school and community programs/events. Working in conjunction with dedicated departmental directors, the Executive Director will coordinate all departmental directors focusing on the cohesion of the whole organization and keeping it oriented around the mission.
The ideal applicant should be willing to work alongside all departments to understand how each team works and build relationships with each staff member. This position requires broad knowledge in organic/regenerative agriculture, planning and hosting events, fundraising and grants, strategic and financial planning, leadership and management, special needs programming, and local economic development. This is a full-time, year-round, on-site position.
