Note on Herbalism:
Herbalism is a departure from the quick fix philosophy of allopathic medicine (treat or mask the symptoms), herbalism aims to affect the cause, and that sometimes requires consistency, time, patience, introspection, learning, and educating ourselves, lifestyle changes. Herbs offer deeper and more complete support when taken on a consistent basis, that is not to say that herbs do not offer support in times of need because they absolutely do, and that is wonderful. We do not think of these products as substitutes or replacements for medicines.

What is an Oxymel?
Oxymel is an herbal preparation with origins in ancient Persia and Greece, and references in pharmacopeias across cultures and ages. The word oxymel is translated in Latin as ‘oxy’ meaning acid + ‘mel’ meaning honey. The recorded historical applications are extensive, and this method has stood the test of time for good reason. Every element of an oxymel offers therapeutic value. Our formulas are made with apple cider vinegar, which offers digestive support, beneficial bacteria, proteins, and enzymes from the "mother" culture, B-vitamins, and polyphenols (plant based antioxidants). Raw local honey has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory qualities. Oxymels are a delicious and accessible way to get acquainted with herbs, and can be taken in a variety of ways. We love to make botanical shrubs by adding an ounce of an oxymel to sparkling water, or taking a tablespoon before or after a meal to support digestion.
Fig, Fig Leaf & Sage Oxymel
digestive tonic
Figs are said to be one of the first plants cultivated by humans and have a long history of use in medicine traditions across cultures. Figs are supportive to overall gut health as a good source of prebiotics and fiber; mission figs especially have notable anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and demulcent (relieves irritation specifically of mucous membranes) qualities. As a demulcent herb, fig is helpful in soothing symptoms and irritations of sore throat and cough. Both the leaves and the skin of the fruit contain nutrients and bioactive compounds that have been studied to lower cholesterol levels. Garden sage offers many elements of support as an antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and digestive herb. Sage has a warming quality that supports respiratory, circulatory, and digestive function. Sage and fig are extracted beautifully into a blend of honey and apple cider vinegar to create a delicious formula that offers a myriad of nutrients, warming digestive support, and respiratory support.

Rosemary & Rosehip Oxymel

Rose hips are rich in vitamin C as well as other nutrients and antioxidants, and support healthy immune function, improve cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation and counter stress response. The energetics of roses & rosehips are sweet, bitter, and cooling. Rosemary supports cognitive function and offers anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, and carminative (stimulates digestion + relaxes the smooth muscles of the stomach) properties. The warming + stimulating energetics of rosemary are expressed in the body as improved digestion, increased circulation, blood flow, and flow of oxygen to the brain, alleviating brain fog and imparting mental clarity, improved memory, and concentration. Rosemary is a wonderful plant for uplifting the spirit, as it not only serves to clear stagnation in the systems of the physical body, but the emotional body as well. I love rosemary as an example of how the systems of the body do not operate independently, but rather exist in symbiosis with one another and the health of one system directly affects the health of another. Rosemary’s ability for clearing stagnation in the body directly correlates to its ability to support a clear emotional mind. The contrasting energetics of this formula compliment one another in function and taste, to create a balanced elixir that is sweet, acidic, and earthy.

Butterfly pea flower has been used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Ayurvedic medicine, Thai Traditional Medicine, among others for many years as a nervous system balancing adaptogen, said to support the whole person both physically and mentally. What is an elixir?
An elixir is a sweet tasting herbal preparation, in the form of liquid, that is ingested as a means of delivering the properties of a medicinal herb or blend of herbs to the body. An herbal elixir can be made with a variety of extraction methods: honey, maple syrup, alcohol, vegetable glycerin, apple cider vinegar, and any medicinal herb(s) of choice; the combinations and formulas are endless, but the common understanding is that there is a sweet component. It can be difficult to take an herbal formula that tastes unpleasant, especially for those who are not yet familiar with the support that herbs can offer, but even for those that are, we are less likely to reach for them in times of need if it is an unpleasant experience. The sweetness of an elixir lends itself to compliance; including an element of enjoyment as well as an element of convenience encourage us to take our herbs and receive the support that they may offer to us. Our elixirs are made with herbs, distilled water, and organically sourced, food grade, plant based glycerin. In herbalism, this method of preparation is also called a "glycerite". The glycerin is the sweet component and it is useful for extracting a variety of compounds from an herb. It is an alcohol free method of extraction, making it safe and accessible for all. You can take drops of your elixir directly by mouth, or added to a cup of tea, or a glass of still or sparkling water.
Renew + Restore - Tulsi Elixir
adrenal support elixir
Tulsi, ocimum sanctum, also called sacred basil or holy basil, is a nervine, carminative, nootropic and adaptogenic herb in the mint family. Adaptogens lessen the effects of stress on the body, working along the HPA axis (hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal aixs - that runs from our brain to our kidneys) to help regulate spikes of cortisol (the stress hormone) production. In short, adaptogens protect our cells from the harmful effects of stress signals. Stress can weaken our immune systems, disturb our sleep cycles, contribute to digestive upset or stagnation, and generally dysregulate the systems of our bodies. Tulsi brings balance to the body and clarity to the mind. It is a gentle, grounding adaptogen that offers relief in the way of nervous system support, digestive system support + efficient absorption of nutrients, aids in liver detoxification + microbiome balance, strengthens immune function, and supports cognitive function. Tulsi is an amazing herb to be acquainted with, it is truly representative of the symbiosis that exists within our bodies + how our systems interact, and encourages homeostasis within those systems.

Restful Root - Valerian Elixir
sleep support elixir
Valerian, valeriana officinalis, has a deep, pungent, full aroma, and potent herbal actions to match. We harvest the roots in fall, it is a labor of love as they are sort of scraggly and tangled and it is a process to get them sorted and cleaned. Valerian is a nervine, sedative, carminative, antispasmodic, emmenagogue and analgesic. It is widely known for its efficacy in supporting restful sleep as it is one of the most relaxing herbs for the nervous system and for diffusing tension in the body. Valerian is supportive in relieving pain associated with tension, such as migraines or TMJ. As an antispasmodic, it offers support for cramping, intestinal colic, and stomach upset. And as an emmenagogue, it stimulates menstrual flow. Valerian shines brightest in bringing relief to areas of tension related to stress and nervousness, indicated for support with disrupted sleep patterns, digestive issues, menstrual cycle, or muscle + joint tightness.

* It should be noted that a small percentage of people feel stimulated by valerian, and experience the opposite of desired effect; if you are new to this plant, we recommend testing a .5mL-1mL, during the day, to get a sense of your personal response -- use caution if driving or taking sedative medication

Respiratory Rescue - Echinacea Root Elixir
immune support elixir
Echinacea, echinacea spp., is an alterative, lymphatic, and immune support ally. The whole plant is used in herbalism, the flowers and leaves can be harvested through the summer and the roots are harvested in the fall. This elixir is made with echinacea root, and like valerian, it is a labor of love: digging, cleaning, and processing the roots is, in fact, a whole thing and it is also absolutely worth the effort. Echinacea can help to encourage the body's ability to resist bacterial and viral infections by stimulating immune function as well as offering anti-inflammatory and pain relieving support. It is considered an immunostimulant which means it helps engage our bodies’ natural defenses in times of need, it is often mistakenly employed as a preventative and is much less effective in that capacity. That is not to diminish the support that echinacea can undoubtedly offer, rather to suggest reaching for echinacea at the onset of illness for optimal support. Echinacea helps stimulate the natural production of healthy immune cells and removal of toxins through movement of blood and the lymphatic system. It provides effective and reliable support and is wonderful to have in times of need.
*contraindicated for those with autoimmune conditions

Burn Bundles
Sustainably harvested herbs crafted into bundles, from plants growing here on the farm.
The practice of burning herbs such as white sage or palo santo, for energetic cleansing, is rooted in sacred medicine and ceremony of many Native and Indigenous nations. It is important to acknowledge and hold reverence and awareness of the cultural significance of this practice. Because of the appropriation of these traditions, white sage and palo santo are being over-harvested and natural stands of these plants are being depleted, making them unavailable to those with whom this very practice begins.
These bundles are made with herbs from our farm, used to clear space or create space, with reverence for those whose traditions inspire this beautiful practice, in hopes that the message is spread that it is not ok to contribute or participate in appropriating cultures or decimating wild plant populations. To be inspired by beautiful practices and traditions that belong to a culture that is not our own, there must be reverence, there must be awareness. These burn bundles should be burned safely with a fireproof dish as a safe place to put your bundle in between wafting and to catch any ash or falling embers as you work with the smoke. If you do not burn entirely in one sitting make sure it is extinguished completely. white and red pine, lavender, mugwort, thyme, sweet annie, mexican mint marigold, garden sage, yarrow, wormwood, red dead nettle
